Bourbon Cocktails to Try

I think everyone can agree that the most well-known Bourbon cocktail is an Old Fashioned, which will forever be a classic, but there are some other simple cocktails to make with Bourbon using ingredients that you would typically already have at home. If you're interested in diversifying your home bar cocktail recipes, then keep reading to see what our favorite easy Bourbon cocktails are!

  • Gold Rush - This one uses 3 ingredients, bourbon, honey, and lemon, and is very easy to make. You can also play around with the proportions of honey to lemon to make it sweeter or more acidic, whichever tickles your fancy.
    • 2 oz GTD Bourbon
    • 1 oz Lemon Juice
    • 1 oz Honey Syrup (Add a bit of warm water to some honey to thin it out to make it easier to homogenize with the other ingredients)
    • Add all ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake for about 5-7 seconds to get everything nice and chilled. Strain into a rocks glass with ice and garnish with a lemon peel.

  • Whiskey Sour - This is a classic that you can have some fun with by adding flavors like raspberry, blackberry, or even lavender. By adding fruit, spices, or herbs when you make your simple syrup it can easily turn this cocktail into something unique! You can also make this a New York Sour by adding a red wine float on top, which you can do by pouring a nice dry red over a bar spoon and it should settle at the top of your cocktail.
    • 2 oz GTD Bourbon
    • 1 oz Simple Syrup (equal parts sugar and water)
    • 1 oz Lemon Juice
    • 3/4 oz Egg Whites
    • Add all of your ingredients into a shaker without ice first to do a dry shake. This activates the egg whites so they froth up better. After about 10 seconds of shaking add ice to your shaker and shake again for about another 10 seconds. Strain into a rocks glass with ice and garnish with a lemon peel.
      • Pro Tip: If you use egg whites from eggs as opposed to a carton you'll get a much better froth in your cocktail!

  • Mint Julep - This is a popular drink at the Kentucky Derby, but in our opinion, they're good all summer long. Plus you get to do some smashing which is always fun!
    • 2 oz GTD Bourbon
    • 3/4 oz Simple Syrup
    • 8 Mint Leaves
    • 1 Cup Crushed Ice (The best way to make crushed ice is to put some in a heavy-duty ziplock bag or a cloth bag and hit it with a mallet until you get the size that you want)
    • Add your mint leaves and simple syrup to a Julep Cup (if you have one) or to a rocks glass and muddle the mint. Then add your Bourbon and some of your crushed ice to the glass and give everything a good mix. Then top the rest of the ice up so it makes a dome over the glass. You want the ice small enough to distribute easily in the glass, but not to the point of a snow cone, or else your drink will get watered down too quickly. Garnish with a mint sprig and enjoy!
