Frequently Asked Questions
Q) Do you offer tours at the distillery?
A) Yes, we open up the distillery to the public three times a week. Stop by and see us on Thursdays & Fridays from noon to 5:00 pm and on Saturdays from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Come in and visit the distillery. There is always something new going on and we enjoy meeting our customers.
Q) What makes GTD different than the “big guys”?
A) Artesian distillers across the country are bringing world class spirits into the US market. What we offer is hand crafted spirits, using locally grown grains which supports Michigan agriculture. We are using hand distilling methods which offer higher quality spirits than the industrial alcohol producers. Each mash run, fermentation and distillation is a hand done procedure. With this the distiller can assess the progress and fine tune is needed. When cutting our heads and tails the distiller decided when to make the cut. No automated process can produce the results that the human senses offer. When you support your local distiller, you support your local farmers, local labor pool, and save energy because a product is not being shipped across the Atlantic Ocean. People are discovering that just because a vodka is from France, Russia or Poland does not mean it is better than what is being distilled in Traverse City. Local can mean world class quality.
Q) What motivated you to open up a distillery here in Michigan?
A) Michigan is our home state, we have lived here our whole life. We in this country use to produce, manufacture and supply most of the products we need. Something has happened in the USA and we are finding far too many items on the shelves or showrooms made anywhere but in Michigan and the USA. At GTD we want to bring it back home. Why are we sending our dollars over to Europe when we can produce quality spirits here in Michigan? Supporting Michigan agriculture and employing a Michigan labor force is what we are about. “End your dependence of foreign alcohol” is why we are here.
