Besides the age of this whiskey being the largest aspect distinguishing the two, the flavors are a little different with the extra aging in the barrel. The barrel produces sweeter notes that complement the leather and earthy flavors from the malted mash bill. Our previous batch, though still very good, doesn't have the same depth that the 12-year carries.
For us, this American Single Malt is more than just a great whiskey, it showcases our heritage as Michigan's oldest grain-to-bottle craft distillery. We started Grand Traverse Distillery 20 years ago, and when we started, we initially didn't have any whiskey since we needed to build up the revenue and space before we could set aside our liquid gold investment. Even with us starting as just a clear spirits distillery, the fact that we now have a 12-year-old whiskey all aged in-house, never bought in or sourced, shows our dedication to craft spirits since our inception. We're proud that we can, at this point, create a 12-year whiskey made with all local Michigan agriculture that's distilled, mashed, fermented, and aged all under one roof. Our goal from the start has been to promote the Michigan agriculture industry and support small farmers, while making an excellent spirit in our home state, and this American Single Malt represents us as a distillery, and the future we plan to continue through the excellence of well-made Michigan craft spirits.
All of our tasting rooms will carry this 12-Year American Single Malt. You'll be able to taste and purchase a bottle at any of our tasting rooms, or at our Frankenmuth and Downtown TC locations, you can have a pour of it as well. This is a limited product, so we suggest that if you like it to buy it quickly since we only have around 250 bottles in total across all 5 of our tasting rooms. Our Frankenmuth and Traverse City tasting rooms are open at our regular hours, and our seasonal tasting rooms will be open on weekends for the month of May before opening back up to our full hours starting Memorial Day weekend. You can check out our hours on Google or on our website to keep up-to-date with our seasonal hours as we move through our busy season.
